HPC Network Infrastructure Engineer
Do you thrive in complex network environments and enjoy working close to the infrastructure powering advanced computing platforms? Are you motivated by building and maintaining high-performance systems with critical uptime requirements? If so, read on about the HPC Network Infrastructure Engineer role at atNorth.
At atNorth, High-Performance Computing (HPC) plays a vital role in helping customers tackle complex, compute-intensive challenges – from AI and deep learning to scientific simulations and advanced analytics. Much like Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), our approach centers on building and operating powerful, scalable, and highly reliable infrastructure where performance and efficiency are critical. As part of our team, you’ll help design and run the robust network backbone that makes this high-performance environment possible.
The Role
As part of atNorth’s specialized HPC infrastructure team, you’ll work at the forefront of high-performance computing — ensuring the performance, scalability, and reliability of a distributed compute platform that powers advanced workloads like AI, simulations, and data analytics. The team operates across a broad technical landscape, including networking, virtualization, storage, and automation, to deliver world-class HPC solutions.
In your role as an HPC Network Infrastructure Engineer, you’ll take the lead in designing, implementing, and optimizing the network architectures that underpin our data center and HPC environments. This position blends hands-on engineering with strategic planning, supporting the evolution of our infrastructure as demand and complexity grow.
Your primary responsibilities within the team involve:
- Designing and implementing high-performance networking solutions in atNorth’s data centers.
- Optimizing network infrastructure to ensure low-latency, high-throughput performance for HPC and data-intensive workloads
- Supporting the day-to-day operations of our HPC networking environment, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
- Collaborating with colleagues in infrastructure, compute, and storage to ensure optimal end-to-end performance.
- Contributing to automation of deployment and configuration workflows using tools such as Ansible or Python.
- Working closely with customers, architects, and project stakeholders to implement reliable and scalable solutions.
- Helping to drive improvements in processes, documentation, and technical standards within the team.
In this role, you report to the HPC Operations Manager based in Gothenburg. We offer a hybrid work model and prefer candidates based in or around Gothenburg, Sweden.
Is this you?
We’re looking for someone with a relevant academic background in computer engineering, network technology, or information systems. However, a vocational education in a related field, combined with solid hands-on experience, is also highly valued. We also recognize that extensive professional experience in network architecture or advanced network operations — typically at least five years. In addition, you bring several years of experience working in data centers, HPC environments, cloud platforms, or other large-scale IT infrastructures where performance and availability are critical. You have deep technical knowledge of networking and you're comfortable working in Linux-based systems.
You have strong familiarity with routing and switching protocols like BGP, OSPF, EVPN, and VXLAN. You’re preferably used to automation and configuration management tools such as Ansible, Bash, or Python, and have solid skills in troubleshooting and monitoring using tools like tcpdump and Wireshark. In addition, experience with enterprise firewalls like Fortigates and IP Sec. Experience with the Linux networking stack and how networking integrates with compute and storage is highly valued. Prior experience in leading technical initiatives, improving operational processes, or mentoring colleagues is considered an advantage.
In addition to your technical strengths, we place high value on your personal qualities. You are structured, solution-oriented, and communicative. You enjoy working collaboratively and take pride in building robust, high-quality solutions with long-term stability.
What we offer
An opportunity to work with cutting-edge HPC networking infrastructure in a fast-growing company, where your contribution makes a real impact. You’ll join a highly skilled, curious, and supportive team in an environment that values shared knowledge and technical excellence. We offer a hybrid work model and prefer candidates based in Gothenburg or the surrounding area. In this role, you’ll have the chance to influence architecture, processes, and automation in a business-critical environment.
