Power Engineering Manager at atNorth
We are looking for a Power Engineering Manager to join our Power Delivery team. In this key role, you will strengthen our engineering, design management and technical governance capabilities, supporting complex power infrastructure projects from early development through design, construction, commissioning and handover.
You will act as a technical and commercial expert for high-voltage and medium-voltage infrastructure, helping ensure that our engineering solutions support safe, sustainable and cost-effective project delivery.
As Power Engineering Manager, you will take ownership of engineering-related matters covering grid connections, substations, HV and MV systems, power-line interfaces and campus power infrastructure.
You will also be working with colleagues across the other Nordic countries to share knowledge and develop best practices. Working closely with Power Delivery leadership, project managers, country development teams, Procurement and Operations, you will ensure that engineering decisions support project scope, schedule, budget, safety, quality and long-term operational requirements.
You will represent atNorth in technical discussions with local country teams, engineering consultants, grid owners, suppliers, contractors and other external partners.
Key responsibilities:
Ensure a consistent and high-quality engineering standard for substations, grid connections, HV and MV systems, power lines and campus power distribution across atNorth projects.
Lead and coordinate power infrastructure design activities, including requirements definition, concept design, detailed design, technical reviews and approvals.
Manage external engineering consultants, architecture and engineering partners, grid-interface designers, OEMs and contractors.
Support power infrastructure projects throughout site selection, feasibility studies, grid connection development, design, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover to Operations.
Work closely with Power Delivery project managers to provide end-to-end engineering support for new builds, expansions, grid connections and retrofit projects.
Collaborate with Country Development Managers and Procurement to assess costs, lead times, supplier capabilities and quality.
Support project planning, scope definition, procurement strategies, budget validation and technical decision-making.
Review and validate capital expenditure budgets for high-voltage infrastructure, including expansions, retrofits and new developments.
Ensure that engineering solutions are safe, constructible, operable, maintainable and aligned with atNorth standards.
Evaluate proposed changes to substations and other HV infrastructure, including their technical, operational and commercial impact.
Provide clear implementation guidance to local Operations teams during technically complex or business-critical changes.
Support technical incident investigations, root-cause analysis and the implementation of corrective actions.
Share technical recommendations and lessons learned across atNorth’s data centre portfolio.
Review and recommend updates to atNorth’s technical design requirements based on project experience, operational feedback and technological development.
Identify opportunities to improve the sustainability of our power infrastructure and reduce its environmental impact.
Ensure compliance with atNorth’s financial approval processes within your area of responsibility.
Drive continuous improvement in engineering standards, working methods and supplier collaboration.
Your profile:
You have a strong background in high-voltage infrastructure engineering and are comfortable taking technical ownership in complex, multidisciplinary projects. You can translate technical requirements into practical solutions and understand how engineering decisions affect cost, schedule, construction, commissioning and long-term operations.
You approach challenges analytically, breaking complex issues into manageable components while maintaining focus on the most critical details. You communicate clearly, collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders and are comfortable providing direction in high-impact situations.
We also believe you are proactive, committed and adaptable. You take ownership of your work, remain calm under pressure and are willing to adjust priorities when project requirements change.
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
Approximately 5 to 7 years of experience in high-voltage infrastructure engineering.
Solid knowledge of HV substations, transformers, HV and MV switchgear, grid connections and high-voltage power lines.
Experience in engineering and construction projects, preferably covering design, build, testing and commissioning.
A strong understanding of the design, construction and commissioning of HV substations and power infrastructure.
Experience managing technical consultants, designers, suppliers or contractors.
The ability to review technical solutions, identify risks and provide clear recommendations.
An understanding of project budgets, capital expenditure and the commercial implications of engineering decisions.
Fluent written and spoken English, Finnish being a big merit.
Background check is conducted to all our employees.
Experience in data centre infrastructure or data centre construction is considered an advantage. Knowledge of Finnish and familiarity with building management systems, mechanical engineering, civil structures or architectural interfaces would also be beneficial.
