Do you possess clear leadership skills and have the ability to coach and develop a technical team? Are you looking for your next challenge in a company with a strong focus on sustainability and experiencing significant growth?
As an HPC Operations Manager, you will be responsible for managing and optimizing the operation of our high-performance computing (HPC) systems. You will oversee the architecture and ensure that the solution is built and developed in close collaboration with your team. The role involves planning and executing maintenance, updates, and troubleshooting to ensure the system operates smoothly for customers needing powerful computational capacity for advanced analyses and simulations. You and your team will monitor system performance, manage resource allocation, and ensure both software and hardware are functioning optimally — tasks that you actively support, develop, and plan for. When needed, you will also work hands-on with solutions.
As HPC Operations Manager, you will collaborate with various teams to ensure that the system meets business needs. You will be responsible for leading, developing, and supporting your team, which consists of HPC specialists spread across Gothenburg, Iceland, and Spain. The primary responsibility is to create cohesion within the team, structure the work, and drive development forward. You will work with a solution that operates around the clock, requiring a strong customer focus. The responsibility for HPC spans several countries, primarily Sweden and Iceland, but eventually extending to Denmark and Finland.
Your main responsibilities within the team include:
- Hiring manager and personnel responsibility (currently 4 people, with more to come) – You will be responsible for recruitment, work environment, and conducting employee reviews, ensuring the team’s development and well-being.
- Leading installation and configuration - You will be responsible for leading the team through the installation and configuration of HPC systems, including network and storage.
- Guiding in troubleshooting - You will guide the team in quickly identifying and solving performance and technical issues.
- Resource management and optimization - You will oversee and lead the optimization of system resources and applications to maximize efficiency.
- Maintenance and security - You will ensure that the team carries out regular updates and implements security solutions to protect the system.
- Team and project management - You will inspire and coach the team while driving projects toward successful delivery.
The role involves extensive communication and collaboration. As HPC Operations Manager, you will work closely with the Chief HPC Officer, Support & Applications, Development, and Customer Delivery to ensure that projects and solutions are delivered and developed over time. In this role, you will report to the Chief HPC Officer. We offer a hybrid working arrangement, but since part of our team is based in Gothenburg, we prefer that the applicant resides in or around Gothenburg.
Is this you?
To succeed in this role, it is essential to have solid knowledge of Linux system administration and good skills in configuration management. Ideally, you have an academic background in computer science, informatics, or a related field from a technical university. You have at least 5 years of experience as a technical hiring manager and/or 10 years of experience leading technical teams. Additionally, a strong understanding of cloud solutions, expertise in virtualization systems, network management, and storage design across different types is valued. Fluent English, both spoken and written, is a requirement, and knowledge of Swedish is considered a merit.
We value not only your technical skills but also your leadership abilities and personal qualities. We are looking for someone who is a supportive and clear leader, capable of creating a positive and inclusive work environment. You are motivated by seeing your team develop and enjoy supporting them as they face challenges. Your strength lies in generously sharing your knowledge and experience while actively fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous learning within the team.
