HSE Manager, Central Function SME
Lead HSE excellence at atNorth as a central SME—driving safety, compliance, and sustainability across Nordic datacenter operations and projects.
As an HSE Manager at atNorth, you will serve as a central Subject Matter Expert (SME), advisor, and trainer for Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) across our Nordic datacenter operations and construction projects.
You will lead risk assessments, audits, and reviews; provide practical support and training to site teams and contractors; and ensure compliance and continuous improvement aligned with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards.
The role carries authority to enforce HSE standards, recommend and implement Stop-Work, and drive corrective actions—but does not involve direct operational management on-site.
Authority & Accountability
You will act as the HSE expert with authority to stop unsafe work, escalate issues, and ensure compliance with atNorth standards. You are accountable for the quality and impact of HSE training, audits, and risk assessments.
Success in this role will be measured by the effectiveness of safety programs, audit outcomes, and continuous improvement in HSE performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Advise on environmental management (waste, chemicals, emissions, resource use) and support sustainability targets.
Establish and coach a risk-based HSE methodology for high-hazard work (LOTOTO, working at height, lifting, hot work, confined spaces, live electrical work).
Lead and support risk assessments; verify controls are practical and updated after changes or incidents.
Plan and execute HSE audits, inspections, and reviews; track findings to closure and share lessons learned.
Ensure compliance with local regulations and atNorth standards; support ISO 45001/14001 audits and close non-conformities.
Pre-qualify, induct, and coach contractors; validate competencies and safe systems of work.
Lead incident investigations (root cause/5-Why); follow up on corrective actions; strengthen emergency preparedness through drills.
Design and deliver toolbox talks and targeted training; run behavioral safety programs.
Maintain consolidated HSE data (TRI/LTI, high-potential events, audit scores, environmental KPIs) and provide insights for reviews.
Contribute to global HSE policies, SOPs, and readiness gates; provide specialist input remotely and on-site.
What We’re Looking For:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Construction Engineering, or related field.
Experience:
Minimum 5 years of practical HSE experience, including 2+ years in datacenter construction or complex industrial projects.
Experience as an HSE SME or central advisor preferred.
Strong knowledge of ISO 45001 & ISO 14001 and audit processes.
Proven track record in risk assessments, audits, and measurable safety improvements.
Experience supporting multiple sites/projects and contractor organizations.
Skills:
Excellent communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills.
Fluent in English; proficiency in a local Nordic language preferred.
Certifications (Preferred):
NEBOSH/IOSH, First Aid; WAH/Lifting/Appointed Person certifications are a plus.
